I know i may not have experience but im know no idiot. Of course you have to use mic to record but its not used for amplification reasons. Plus other than the drums the basses done play to frequently in this particular song. But then again I dont know how big the room is so you might be right.

You've obviously never played trumpet with a an electric guitar, electic bass and drums... He wouldn't be heard without a mic, and in order to record him he needs a mic too.... Hope that answers your question...

I'm posting on my daughter's account, but wanted to mention I played trumpet next to Chris, then a freshman, in the Crescent Valley HS band in Corvallis, OR. Also in jazz band and stage band with him. He was awesome then and our featured soloist. I have some of his cds, but sort of ashamed I haven't seen him live.

I am not sure that the quality of being unplugged is enough to constitute "traditional jazz." I think that it is inaccurate to define diferent genres of music by a rule so absolute as whether it is unplugged or not. I also looked up smooth jazz on wikipedia, and it said that smooth jazz does, in fact, sometimes include improvisitation. And, in any case, I think that this recording, if it is indeed "traditional jazz," sounds an awful lot like smooth jazz.

Smooth jazz is characterized by computer generated tones. It gives an illusion of an artist playing. For example a computer generated drum beat or computer generated strings. Computer generatied tones lack the fundamental of jazz - improvisation. Tones cannot provide variation or respond to the lead singer or player. There is no independent interpretation of a song/phrase. If the electricity goes out so does the smooth jazz performance. If it is unplugged it is traditional jazz.

Unbelievable! I saw this guy live last year and it was fantastic. Billy Kilson absolutely killed...wow...it was one of the best performances from a trap set drummer I've ever seen.....oh yeah and Chris Botti was amazing as well

I think it is important to distinguish between "smooth jazz" and "jazz." I believe that Chris Botti is squarely in the "smooth jazz" category, although I enjoy him more than some other kinds of smooth jazz. Just saying...I don't mean to be rude. If you never played before, rent one first in case you're not crazy about it. You want to rent a B flat trumpet. The mouthpiece comes in different sizes depending on the size of your lips. Try some out..a size 7 will probably come with your trumpet, but you may feel more comfy with a 5. Good luck.

I like what you said here. When you sang I wont complain, your reaction was in keeping with the composers intent. You show the blues. You cry. Our sister Jill is locked into an musical arrangement where she is actually demonstrating exuberance, smiling, even joy. Apart from the lyrics, it sounds wonderful. In the context of the blues coupled with the lyrics, exhibiting joy seems to me a little odd. Be blessed Ronnie.

My suggestion is to keep it raw! Re-laquering it will restrict vibrations of the bell, and that "warm, and choclaty" sound you love will be different. I may still play great, but it won't ever be the same.

Well my 1944 Martin Committee trumpet came in...it's lush, dark, warm, chocolaty...everything that I thought it would be...and more. Surprisingly it can brighten up when needed! I'll get it relacquered at some point...right now it's in "raw-brass." BUT I don't want a bright lacquer...I want a dark lacquer...not gold...just darker. Any suggestions...?

Yeah the mouthpiece helps as well. Botti uses a Bach 3(not3C), which has quite a deep cup. Enjoy your new horn! Id like to hear what you think of it after you try it.

Not a good version. Chris is very talented, and I am pretty disappointed with this. If you want to hear the greatest version of this song, listen to Chet Baker. Lister to his "The Last Great Concert" CD. That, in my opinion, is the ultimate version of "My Funny Valentine".

This is true, Ive had that mod installed and it makes the game well enough to play once in a while. Even so, even with the mod installed, the game doesnt live up to its hype at all. When at its best it still leaves much to be desired, and without mods the stock vesion would forever reside in my CD cabinet.

Definitely Mad doc, They had this game in development under activision in 2003. but pulled it when activision parted company with viacom. So it sat there for 3 years until bethesda came along. Now i reckon Mad doc approached them saying "we can make a star trek game very cheaply because most of it is already completed" outdated and clumsy the engine may of been but Bethesda bought the license and thought they could make a quick cash with it. That's what i think.
