yes i see you're point - there were lots of wars soon after. but ww2 finished on august the 15th 1945 and another conflict in the world, the indonesian revolution or something, didn't start until a few days later than that. therefore, for a few days, there was a time without war, equivalent to a time of peace in that sense. when i said free, i meant free of war - in that sense we can achieve freedom but true freedom i understand is not just pertinent to no war.

the world wasn't free either, half of Europe got under the rule of the Stalinist regime, and China was soon to join that camp, becoming into one of the most oppresive totalitarianism ever; about 20 to 40 million people died during the "Great Leap Forward" in communist China in the sixties - that's about 5 times more than in Holokaust.

such knowledge is within hand's reach these days. if you don't read books, you can still start with e.g. the "List of wars 1945-1989" entry on Wikipedia - it compiles a list of nearly 100 wars in that "period of peace completely free of war" of yours. seriously, what do you learn about at school?

i think you're winding me up, because it's hard to believe that you've never heard of Korea, Afghanistan, or Vietnam or Middle East conflict.
By: hippie00chick. on 30 Dec 08, 17:21:12
the period i'm talking about lasted a fraction of the time you jst said - it was after the second world war and it just so happened that all over civil wars ceased for a while and the world was free.

Both, I was being sarcastic.
By: vibovitold. on 30 Dec 08, 03:39:09
you're right. the period you're talking about = from 4,500,000,000 BC to 500,000 BC (approximately)
By: rdgloveshouse. on 30 Dec 08, 00:28:38
are you talking about Ricky's interpretation or Hitler's. 'cuz if you're talking about Hitler's, we know it was wrong. If you're talking about Ricky's, well, Ricky didn't make one. he was talking about what Hitler's (wrong) interpretation was.
By: rdgloveshouse. on 30 Dec 08, 00:22:58
this argument is pointless (on their part) because Nietzsche WAS a political philosopher. people are saying that he wasn't just to make Ricky look bad, its not the only thing Nietzsche did so in their minds they might as well use that against Ricky. make sense? : )
By: rdgloveshouse. on 30 Dec 08, 00:10:55
Yes he was...but he did a lot of other studies also. maybe that's why your confused.

a)-''brits are not funny''?- it's racist to generalize a group of people from a certain area. ''dentist needing sons of bitches''? there are people all over the world with bad teeth and Ricky just happens to one of them, there is no need to say all British people do. b)- a lot of successful comedians are British. so your opinion is kind of going against the rest of the world (most) c)- if you don't like it, why are you watching it? d)- just wondering, what type of humour do you like????
By: thepoet82. on 29 Dec 08, 01:51:36
Give Mr. Gervais some creative freedom! His job is to make things funny, and he isn't way off, because Nietzsche did say those things, and they can be interpreted in a political manner. Gervais simply made this into something funny. It's comedy, not advanced study of the subtleties of Nietzches political, philosophical views.

"politics is a dimension that passes thru everything in life" hmm, i don't know... i don't necessarily dissagree, i'd have to think about it. if you're trying to say that it's an essential part of huamn life, no question. but it is easily ignorable like science for example. i'm lead to believe that it wasn't a particular interest of nietzsche given the little he's written about it and what i percieve to be a shallow analysis of what he has written about politics.
By: plasticgirl. on 26 Dec 08, 19:07:02
he was an integral life lover and philosopher. and i believe politics is a dimension that passes thru everything in life
By: fede2. on 26 Dec 08, 04:08:39
what are you talking about? even if he was a rocket scientist he still wouldn't have the credentials to talk about philosophy. it's an unrelated area.
