Steve Jobs demos Apple Macintosh, 1984 Posted by: tranquileyedotnet
Video duration: 288 seconds Demo of the first Apple Macintosh by Steve Jobs, January 1984, in front of 3000 people. Andy Hertzfeld captured the moment quite well in his retelling: "Pandemonium reigns as the demo completes. Steve has the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face, obviously holding back tears as he is overwhelmed by the moment. The ovation continues for at least five minutes before he quiets the crowd down." Related: 1984, apple, demo, jobs, mac, macintosh, steve Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

And an IBM/MS PC at the same time could do what?
By: avidmc1. on 07 Jan 09, 17:55:05
Well the comparable Dell or HP machines are all pretty equal in price to the macpro. It's only if you're going to build your own or buy a cheap piece of shit that you'll save considerable money.

Dude, it's great that you love your PC, but do a little research before you post. Microsoft ganked its interface from the Mac (who ganked it from Xerox first). I was typing into a DOS prompt to launch Lotus 123 in the late 80's. Both companies were profoundly important in the history of the personal computer.

HAHAHA are you honestly saying that Microsoft hasn't shaped the way we look at technology today?!?! Apple was absolutely nothing up until a few years ago, when they started shipping off cute little computers and iPhones. Microsoft doesn't need to make little toys to be the most successful computer industry of all time.

I think you meant "buy" a PC. I didn't buy my Mac because of the hype I bought it because it works and makes me enjoy using my computer instead of worrying about force quitting applications and troubleshooting and downloading drivers for everything. I just turn it on and do anything I like.

what is so stupid about innovation? This was groundbreaking. Nothing Windows has ever done has been cutting edge. They just follow everyone else.

Well you could say that any current year was more advanced than the preceding year. Just seeing or saying the name "Apple" gets them in to a frenzy.
By: Kaola. on 04 Jan 09, 18:41:24
lol, are you forgetting that this was really advanced technology for the time, it is something to be excited about because nothing like that had really existed up until that point.
By: michaelmayhem123. on 04 Jan 09, 17:06:54
Well the Apple fanatics haven't changed. They still cheer for the most stupid things.

I would love to own a Mac. As soon as Apple starts selling a computer that doesn't cost me twice as much for the same power, I'll buy one. I can get, for about $1,000.00, a PC that is the equivalent of a $2,000 Mac - as far as raw computing power is concerned. (I'm NOT attempting to compare OS X with Vista - Vista is crap compared to OS X. I'm simply comparing raw computing power.) Until Apple makes their computers' prices competitive with PC's of equal power, I'll continue to own a PC.

When you think about the fact that this was 25 years ago, it's awesome. It doesn't seem that old, but it is. Just shows how ahead of its time Apple was and still is. =)
By: Saturn357. on 30 Dec 08, 05:53:47
Ok, but I don't think Bill Gates lives on the west side.
By: Saturn357. on 30 Dec 08, 05:51:49
Gee, I thought that's what Mac would've wanted, a bunch of people to use them. Oh, and by the way, I just bought a Mac Mini and I'm using it right now, this after being on a Windows platform for 10 or so years. But, don't worry, I did learn how to use a computer on a Macintosh and Apple IIe. But, that was probably before your time.
