i remember this when i was youger too my uncle gave me a boom box and some cassetes this was one and i loved it!!i read a book a biography about the second world war from a germans experiance,there was a fierce fight between some russians and germans and it so happened that on christmas eve the russias started playing christmas music then the germans would sing their songs this went on all night with no exchange of gunfire.makes me think of this song..some civility in back then even in war

in the early 80s, Southern California's 3 O'Clock did a remake of this song. it was huge hit in LA and Orange County and one of the prime hits of SoCal's Paisley Underground. you can find The 3 O'clock's version on their first indy album Baroque Hoedown. There are other great nuggets on that album like Cantelope Girlfriend. The Conductor of the Beat Supreme.

This is one of the songs that could equal anything the rest of the world had to offer at the time in the same genre....too bad no one outside of Australia and perhaps NZ could hear it at the time. Maybe at the time they would have pressed up 500 singles to meet demand. 20, 30, 40 years later the rest of the world discovers them and these 500 singles are worth a goldmine if anyone can find a copy. It's not even that Jan's moves were anything special. (all early to mid 60's moves were kinda of funny) but Jan had a definite cool aura about him. The fact that he was an accomplished surfer, arranger and pre-med student also lent to him being a cool guy. Can you imagine any of the rock stars of today singing and then also taking college seriously as a pre med student at the height of their fame. He really was one of a kind.

Well said, and inherent in your comments is that the discerning person would still like the song even if it had hit number one. I like much of the garage bands of three guitars and a set of drums, but this sound is unique. The music business has historically been inimical to women artists, who really did have to be twice as good to get half the recognition. Interestingly, many male moguls within the entertainment industry cite these girl groups as favorites--in one way or another. Cheers!

Back in the early 1970's, Jeff St John used at this immense disco in Sydney near Broadway. This was when he was with The Id and Wendy Saddington used to perform there as well. Does anyone remember it? Used to go there a lot with friends to sit in the big black leather chairs and eat the "compulsory" revolting spaghetti meals they served with the booze. One night, we got there early and we were the only ones there with Jeff St John on stage! He's a legend!
