There are many reasons why this is wrong and shouldn't be supported. The main reason is because Asian elephant babies are being torn from their mothers and broken to be docile enough to make the silly paintings. The "breaking" ritual (phaajaan) is a horrible week-long session of torture that's so bad many elephants don't even survive. Not to mention the cruelty of separating babies from mothers and their aunties. Lek Chailert of the Elephant Sanctuary asks you not to support this abuse. Thanks.

Well, I'm not so sure about the charge of exploitation, but that woman definitely has no clue. She thinks the elephant understands anything. B/S! She's seeing what she wants to see. That said, even if the mahouts are guiding them, it's still pretty impressive that the elephants can be guided that precisely. But let's not read abilities into elephants until they can show them WITHOUT being coached along.

I'm sure this is true, the idea that elephants should grasp the human fascination with flowers is pretty silly, but I'm still impressed by the whole act. The elephant's trunk is an impressive tool. It makes you wonder though, I know elephants have really poor sight it might not be possible for them to appreciate this art at all, but it might be an interesting activity for them if they can. It would be interesting to see if they ever attempted it without coaching.

Lion fans, that is what a lion would prefer doing if it a croc wants to take its food. The croc may be big, but despite that they can spin like a top to face any would be attackers on land, and they can easily rip a lion to pieces if they can bite them. In all, not a something a lion wants to pick a fight with. Though, crocs mostly eat small fish, they will eat almost anything that comes to the river.

I suppose the Nile crocodile would fall into a different category that makes it too hard to compare to these two. I've seen footage of lions in contact with crocs when lions have a kill, but all they do is just act fierce. I've never seen hyenas in contact with crocs. They probably don't fair as well with keeping their kills since they can't drag it away it looks like things will get too rough.

the only place you could see 12 leopards in one place would be a circus. one spotted hyena can "own" one leopard, and vice versa. but generally speaking, a solitary leopard will avoid a single spotted hyena.

I was speaking more specificly about low prey availablity due to hunting by impoverished local people so there is direct competition with man. The recent years have been witnessing a considerable fall in numbers of boar, Siberian stag, roe deer and sika deer, that make up the Amur tiger's food resources. Your third post didn't make much sense. I do not know weather this is directed to me. But let me correct you here. Kodiak bears are bulkier and/thus heavier when fully mature. Polar bears are more slender though usualy longer. Other than that there is one intresting factor nowadays, polar bears no longer reach the enormous sizes they used to, because of scarcity of food (this being an effect of global warming).
