Can you point to any monopolies that existed without gov't intervention in the market? How does gov't seizing capital encourage production? You must be assuming gov't is responsible for production. Compare the US Post Office which runs at a loss every year on our bill to UPS, Fedex at a profit. What is the incentive for gov't to be productive? Look at South Korea Taiwan Singapore, all at the end of WW2 had roughly the same GDP and poverty as Nigeria Sudan Niger and Kenya. One group embraced capitalism the other embraced afromarxism. ok so I finally found a good graph about it, and it confirms what you people were telling me: CO2 has a negligible warming effect when you increase it passed 300ppmv (which we already passed): it can only increase temperatures by 2.5 C max. that's not very dangerous. look it up: (google image : 'Greenhouse co2 greenhouse X4 png' ...and pick the logarythmic curves) so conclusion: the effect of human produced CO2 is not as dramatic as told in Gore's movie for example. it's max 2.5 C.

it might be a drama if the temperature rises much more, like 6 degrees. but so far we can't predict this is going to happen. not as long as we lack a precise model for how much CO2 drives warming. very hard to know. so conclusion, we can't know just by watching the graphs. we need some theoretical calculations about CO2 properties in certain environnment, to predict when and how much CO2 drives warming. SO CONCLUSION: we deserve more information than Al Gore's graphs before buying in for Kyoto

the globe is presently warming, but we can't know if it's because of the few more ppmv of CO2 that we added ourselves. the curve just isn't going crazy up--not at all. but maybe it had an insignificant effect on warming. today we didn't feel the effect of CO2 yet, if there is any. the temperature curve behaves totally normally so far. we are still between the last peak of 0.5 C (in the middle ages) and the last low of -0.6 C around the 18th century. we're at 0.3 C, and the curve doesn't go crazy up, not more than it has been doing before, when humans were not yet releasing CO2. So we don't have any evidence that CO2 is warming the globe.

3/ since humans are living on this planet (-5M yrs), and even a long time before that (-50M yrs), CO2 levels were never above 500ppmv. in fact it's always oscilating between 180 or 200 ppmv(during ice ages) and 280 and 300 ppmv (during warm periods). today, since the 50s, it has been rising exponentially from 280 to 360ppmv, obviously because of humans. now what's hard to guess is how much that new induction of CO2 will affect the warming. it's hard to guess because we can't 'try to see'.

The Fed is just another tool of government intervention. Even though it is run by private bankers, its monopoly powers are delegated and protected by the state. Have you ever been to Japan or Korea? I started going their in the early 70's. You would not have wanted to live there during the time period you mention. Opening their markets has helped their population cope with highly inflated prices. Cheap Chinese goods have improved their standard of living. Only agriculture is still protected. That's why they pay $100 for a watermelon, $45 for a pint of strawberries and 10X world price for rice.

One could argue that protectionism has caused increased prices, unemployment, poverty and promoted inefficient non-competitive companies at the expense of competitive companies. All in the name of building a strong economy. I fully expect that under the new regime we will see novel means of protecting our industrial base. Wrong. Their domestic markets are poorly regulated as they are nascent. That is not to say their domestic economy is not well regulated. It is heavily regulated. Chinese "raging" inflation is something Western media likes to cook up. China's inflation has been nearly steady with 12% GDP growth, which is frankly impossible. This is done through economic regulations/restrictions . Go read up some basic facts before you make your case, otherwise you sound foolish.

pm2324 India per capita GNP is only about $4000. The poverty line in the US is around $15000 so you are wrong again. They may be hard working and skilled, and they are going in the right direction, it's just that wealth and capital build up does not happen overnight. The middle class in India is not financially secure, not in any sense we are used to, you don't what your talking about.

pm2324 I used the US, Canada and Hong Kong, to show what has happened in countries that have had a relatively free-market for a while so as to illustrate how those countries turned out. China particularly, now has more economic freedom than either the US or Canada. That is why their growth rate is much higher. The only way for a society to prosper is for the government to get out of the way with less taxes, less spending, less regulations and bad laws.

pm2324 About China, it's laughable how uninformed you are. China is one of the least regulated markets in the world. And that is a good thing. Independent monetary policy? The Chinese have raging inflation, much higher than in the west, this is a big weakness, not a strength. And they made a mistake in taking on so many US dollars which they will end up getting only a fraction of the value back.
