they did release an album in 2006. no Peter Cetera, tho. still an excellent album. I highly recommend it. these guys are great. I grew up w/them too. I still think Peter's hot!!! I'd forgotten he used to have long hair tho. Better short.

All they did is set the throttle level way low on the intel chips. The first one, the P4 Willy, I have had one of those before and it ran hotter with the heatsink on it than this one did without it. I also had a Pentium III system as well, That CPU ran several degrees hotter at full load with an athlon heatsink on it. On the AMD systems, they just disabled the shutdown temperature in the bios. Boards back in those days had the protection, THG just failed to use it on the AMD systems.

i believe so. But that is not relevant anyway, it is not a meaningful test. They should even test how the cpu copes with mechanical stress, then, just in case someone kicks it, or what happens with blackouts etc, no one will put warranty on this situations, i don't even believe it is the same for all the cpus of a kind, while a 5600+ burns in a situation another 5600+ could keep running flawlessly, there is no documentation from official sources about this. Because it is not meant to happen.

It's not about whether or not they are SUPPOSED to operate without a heatsink; it's about how well they cope with the stress of not having one.

Actually cpus are not meant to be used withoud heatsink. Their behavior under extreme overheating can go anywhere from nuclear explosion to global warming, and this is not a test, just a "funny" game, or, better, a waste of money. It is like if i would test a car by driving it underwater, it is not a useful test. Be ashamed, tom's hardware, as usual.

that's correct, but it shows that Intel has worked on Speedstep way before the newer CPU's came out, I guess that's one of the reasons that their durability is highly recognized (My overheating D600's CPU (pentium M 1.7Ghz) went as low as 133Mhz to prevent from killing itself!!)
