that is a big joe turner song and delbert does it real justice. it is on several albums and you can just hear the joy in his voice. the song that really knocked me out was his rendition of "please,please,please". he has a very different vibe with all respect to james brown.his version was every bit as good in his own way, lots of soul. his own spin on it. it is on "honky tonk and blues" and other albums. check it out. just proves the point that delbert can do anything.

Delberts voice is like fine wine. He just sounds better every year. This is pretty old, but he's still awesome. I've seen him about 30 times, and went on the Blues Cruise about 13 years ago. You can't tell me that you yourself do not observe these mis-pronunciations. To the Spanish speaking culture these mistakes are humorous. Yeah gringos. I'm sure they know that they are pronouncing it wrong. JUST saying...I am from New Mexico and surrounded by Spanish on a daily basis. I've heard all kinds of ways that people pronounce things and I have been to many places where the "white people" make these types of pronunciation mistakes when attempting to speak Spanish. So I made that statement based on experience.

Saw them in Urbana, IL (Canopy Club) a few weeks after this first aired. I was walking near the club and saw the bass player getting off the bus. I said, "Hey, saw the Austin City limits show recently. Good stuff." And he was all like, "YEAH? Was it pretty good? I haven't even seen it yet..." Amazingly friendly. He spotted me a ticket to the show, too. This was from the era when I got into alt-country, and will forever be my "happy place" when I need the alt-country fix. Sure makes me smile...

I'm not sure at this point Wilco could be classified in the neo-country camp entirely anymore. Songs like "Poor Places" don't have much in common with the twangsters. Besides, it was Farrar who drenched "Sebastopol" in timbura and mellotrons. Not a lot of country there. Having said that, I like both bands a lot, neo-country or no.

Ah, the arrogance of Wilco fans who can't understand how anyone could like Son Volt better. Personally, I just think Farrar is a better songwriter. They're both pretty unspectacular live. To me, Wilco's "evolution" is mostly a self-conscious attempt to dress up the same types of songs with quirkier arrangements. I guess I just like my alt-country rock straight up , hold the artsy synths and neo-psychadelic noodling.

That's pretty funny. I listened to the very end and you're right! Her very soulful voice is transformed into this different innocent "thank you" voice. Very funny! But I LOVE Susan's music. I could listen to her all day long. Great stuff.

How magical it must have been to be there in the front row! I love watching this woman perform more than almost anything, but I haven't been able to see her in person (yet). Kinda funny after singing in such a soulful voice she comes on the mic saying 'Thank You' and it sounds almost like a college girl :)

Well. I got the pleasure to see her in a sold out standing room only, small theatre and she blew everyone away. She did requests. People were in tears. Pirates had me weeping. She is one of the true classic talents. Her songs took me away. So beautiful. She came off her bus and hugged me and signed my old Pirates album. I am honered to have perform at my outdoor venue, Nelson Ledges in Ohio, July 1st. I AM SO GRATEFUL! I would have NEVER believed it back in college 1984... RLJ, I love you!

What do you mean "more famous"? Tony Joe wrote "Polk Salad Annie", and "Rainy Night In Georgia", for Christ's sake! Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Tina Turner, Brooks Benton, and CCR recorded his songs. He's been a celebrated songwriter/musician for over 40 years, and he makes enough money, from his royalties alone, to live in a chateau in Southern France. Down where I'm from, in Southeast TX, the man is a minor deity. I think he's about as famous as he wants to be, thank you very much.
